Byrd-Cooper Ranch-Oil Center-Lea Road 115 kV Transmission Line Project

The proposed Xcel Energy Byrd-Cooper Ranch-Oil Center-Lea Road 115 kV transmission line project consists of about 12 miles of new 115 kV transmission line between the Byrd Substation about two miles southwest of Monument, New Mexico and the Lea Road Substation located approximately three miles southwest of Oil Center, New Mexico. The project also includes expanding the existing Cooper Ranch and Oil Center Substations.

The project will increase electric reliability and create capacity for load growth in the area.

On January 12, 2016 the Southwest Power Pool approved a Notice to Construct the project.

The Byrd-Cooper Ranch-Oil Center-Lea Road 115 kV transmission line project is expected to be in-service in 2021. The estimated cost of the project is $8 million.
